21-Jun-06
Indian Oil Corporation has commissioned India's largest purified trephthalic acid (PTA) plant at it's Panipat Refinery in Haryana. The PX-PTA complex set up at an investment of Rs 4,600 crore, will have a production capacity of 360,000 tpa of paraxylene, which in-turn will produce 550,000 tpa of PTA. The plant utilises the latest T-10 technology of Invista hence the PTA produced at Panipat will be superior in quality as compared with the products from the existing plants in India. An estimated 20,000 tpa of benzene will also be produced as a by-product and paraxylene will also be marketed. L&T carried out the engineering, procurement and construction work of the plant besides providing commissioning assistance and Engineers India were the project management consultant for the project. IOC has identified petrochemicals business as one of the prime drivers of future growth and to achieve this, has drawn up an ambitious Rs 30,000 crore master plan, involving development of world-scale petrochemical hubs at Panipat and Paradip on the east coast.
